MVHS Departmental Leadership
Carucci directs all aspects of the administration and operations of the Pharmacy Departments. Prior to this position, she served as director of Pharmacy at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) and as principal consultant for I.C.E. Consulting, Inc. where she provided reimbursement strategy and managed market expertise to client companies. She is a graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy and has more than 30 years of experience in the delivery of pharmacy services. Her experience includes hospital and home infusion pharmacy operations, managed markets sale and reimbursement strategy development for medical devices and alternate site delivery of home infusion therapies.
In this position, Simpson oversees all rehabilitation services, including audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and wellness in acute care, acute rehabilitation, sub-acute rehabilitation and outpatient settings. Simpson has been an employee at St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) since 1979, serving as a physical therapist, director of Physical Therapy, and, most recently, director of Rehabilitation Services. She also serves as assistant professor of Physical Therapy at Utica College in Utica, New York.
Michael McCoy, MBA is our Executive Director of St. Luke's Home. He has more than 30 years of healthcare experience in both acute care and skilled nursing facilities. His most recent experience has been in long term care. McCoy was a member of our Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare team from 2007 to 2010 overseeing Continuing Care Services, Rehabilitation Services and the Regional Dialysis Program. Previous to joining MVHS, Mike was at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam as Administrator of Wilkinson RHCF. Wilkinson is a 160-bed Skilled Nursing Facility that includes an Adult Day Program.
Palmer is responsible for Safety, Security, Clinical Engineering, St. Luke’s Home Plant Operations, Facilities Management, SEMC Environmental Services and Linen, Construction Management and Property Management. Prior to this position, she was director of Facilities Planning and Support Services and director of Project Management and Support Services at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH). Palmer received a Master of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Services Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management from State University of New York, Institute of Technology in Utica.
Responsibilities include overall operation of the Facilities Management Department. Chickering earned his Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) designation from the American Hospital Association. He has been employed at SEMC for more than 21 years and served as director of Facilities Management since 2010, as well as holding other positions within the Facilities Management Department. Chickering received his associate’s degree in Building Construction from Alfred State College and a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Empire State College with a concentration in business, management and economics.
Brian Croghan, CHFM is director of Facilities Management for the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). In this position, he is responsible for the management and oversight of utilities management, life safety compliance, construction and renovation management and grounds keeping. Croghan is a master electrician with more than 20 years of Facilities Management experience. Prior to joining MVHS, he served as director of Facilities for Cobleskill Regional Hospital in Cobleskill, New York, and Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Connecticut.
Forlenza has been employed by SEMC for more than 33 years with 30 years in Clinical Engineering. He previously worked in SEMC’s Environmental Services, Transport and Central Service Departments. He previously served in Clinical Engineering as a biomedical tech, senior biomedical tech and manager of Clinical Engineering. Forlenza received his associate’s degree in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Mohawk Valley Community College and has earned certifications from more than 50 manufacturers’ service schools. These include certifications for Philips monitoring systems, Covidien ventilators, Carefusion infusion pumps and Gambro dialysis equipment.
Sponburgh has been employed by SEMC for four years, first as Environmental Health and Safety officer. In addition, for the past six years he has served as grounds supervisor for TEMCO Inc. at Utica College.
Prior to his positions at SEMC, he was director of Environmental Health and Safety at Utica College, Environmental Health technician at Syracuse University and served in the United States Army as Captain, Environmental Science officer and in the United States Army Reserves, Lieutenant Colonel. His combat service includes Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sponburgh received a Master of Public Health from Tulane University, New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Norwich University Military Academy, Northfield, Vermont. He is a member of the Mohawk Valley Safety Professional’s Consortium and SUNY Environmental Health and Safety Association.
Kilmartin is responsible for leading the Securitas security officers for the system. In addition, the team provides support and technical expertise to all MVHS outlying locations. Kilmartin has worked with Securitas at FSLH for more than 10 years, starting as a security officer before promotion to sergeant and lieutenant. A certified Securitas security supervisor, he holds certificates in Civil Treatment for Managers, Management of Aggressive Behavior, Practical and Tactical Handcuffing, FEMA Incident Command System and several U.S. Department of Homeland Security ISC .
Roach is responsible for the oversight of all activities related to the provision of a safe, functional environment and coordination of the Emergency Preparedness Program. He has been an employee at the organization since 1995, serving as a Bio-Med technician at Faxton-Children’s Hospital and director of Clinical Engineering and Telecommunications for FSLH. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology at SUNYIT in Utica, New York, is a certified internal auditor in ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14000, and has served on various committees including Emergency Management and Safety Steering.
Weiler is responsible for Plant Operations at CRCCS, including Environmental Services, Maintenance, Laundry, Reception and Mohawk Valley Transportation Services. Prior to this position, she was lead technician for Environmental Services at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital Center, assistant director of Environmental Services at Mohawk Valley Division and director of Plant Operations at St. Luke’s Home.
Tan is responsible for the overall operation and delivery of medical imaging services for the system. He has been an employee at St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) since 1980 and has served as a staff radiologic technologist, quality control technologist, assistant manager, Department of Radiology, and as manager of the Department of Radiology since 2002. Tan received his certificate as a radiologic technologist from the St. Elizabeth School of Radiography.
In this position, Dischiavi works directly with radiologists and staff to oversee the daily clinical operations. Also, he assists the director in developing, instituting and monitoring policies and procedures within the department. Dischiavi has been employed at FSLH since 2003. He has held the following positions: computed tomography technologist and supervisor of Medical Imaging. Most recently, he has served as the administrator for the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) since May, 2013. He also served as an instructor at the FSLH School of Radiology and most recently as an adjunct faculty member at the Mohawk Valley Community College Radiologic Technology Program.
Plunkett is responsible for the overall operation of imaging services for the St. Elizabeth Campus. Plunkett works directly with physicians, staff and management to maintain overall clinical operations as well as her current responsibilities as the PACS administrator. Plunkett has been employed at SEMC since 1992 as a staff radiologic technologist, clinical coordinator for the Department of Radiology and as PACS administrator since 2006. Plunkett earned her Certificate in Radiologic Technology from the St. Elizabeth School of Radiography. She received the ARRT Mammography Certification in 1992.
John Lynch is vice president/chief information officer (CIO) for Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). In this role, Lynch coordinates and manages the use of technology to increase information accessibility and integrated systems throughout MVHS.
Prior to this position, Lynch was vice president/CIO at Greater Hudson Valley Health System in Middletown, New York, and, previously, system vice president/CIO at Provena Health (now Presence Health) in Mokena, Illinois.
Oversees the combined IT staff from Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) and St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) who support the Inpatient and Emergency Departments clinical applications at both hospitals. Their primary focus will be the clinical applications in the existing inpatient Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Allscripts/Sunrise for FSLH and McKesson Paragon for SEMC. This includes the application in both Emergency Departments.
Kerry Smith is director of Operations, Information Technology, for the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). He oversees the combined staffs from Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) and St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) who support the networks, personal computers, servers, storage and help desks. Kerry has served as director of Operations for Network Data Systems of FSLH since 2005.
Oversees the combined IT staff supporting MVHS Medical Group, St. Luke’s Home, Home Care, Cancer Center and all other ambulatory/outpatient services. The two ambulatory EHRs, GE Centricity/Logician for ACP and Greenway Health Intergy will be supported by her team. She will also oversee the combined IT staff across MVHS supporting all financial, patient access, revenue cycle IT and integration systems.

Traci Boris, Esq. is vice president of Legal and Compliance for the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). She has served as assistant vice president of Legal and Compliance at MVHS since 2014 and as both assistant general counsel and general counsel for St. Elizabeth Medical Center since joining the organization in 2008.
Boris earned her Juris Doctor cum laude from Albany Law School. She was a member of the Albany Law Review and participated in the Gabrielli Moot Court Appellate Advocacy Competition. She completed her Bachelor of Science magna cum laude in Political Science at SUNY Oneonta in Oneonta, New York.

Derrick Suehs is assistant vice president of Quality and Patient Outcomes for the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS).
Mr. Suehs was previously the Chief Quality and Administrative Operations Officer at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, New York. He has more than 30 years experience in the health care field. He is an adjunct professor at Syracuse University, Utica College and LeMoyne College and lectures on Organizational Leadership, Quality Management and Performance Improvement. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas; his Master of Arts degree from National University in San Diego, California and his Doctor of Education degree from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York.
In this role Mr. Suehs is responsible for helping us meet our goals of providing excellent patient quality and safety, as well as achieving excellence in the areas of utilization and case management. He brings to us an extensive background in health care quality and outcomes management, as well as his knowledge of the special challenges of the upstate New York health care environment.
Eric Yoss, MD, FCCP, a specialist in Pulmonology and Critical Care Medicine, is senior vice president of Quality at the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). In this position, he is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the various quality programs at MVHS.
Dr. Yoss has served on the St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) medical staff since the early 1990s, including as its president and secretary/treasurer. He has been associated with Pulmonary and Critical Care Associates of New Hartford since 1988 and has served as medical director of Respiratory Care and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at SEMC and as medical director of Critical Care services at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH).
In this position, Baker is responsible for overseeing the Quality Management department, meeting regulatory requirements and coordinating the efforts of identified committees, departments, and clinical service teams in providing feedback and input into responses to the Department of Health, DNV Healthcare and other accrediting bodies. She also functions as the NYSDOH liaison and Liventa/IPRO liaison. Prior to this position, Baker was director of Regulatory Affairs for MVHS. She has more than thirty years of healthcare experience beginning as a critical care nurse at Faxton Hospital.
In this position, Bernard oversees infection prevention programs at all MVHS locations, develops and executes annual infection reduction plans, and educates staff members on proper infection prevention practices. Bernard has been an employee at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) since 2008, serving as the nurse manager of the Vascular Access Department, as well as the director of Infection Prevention. Bernard earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Infection Prevention and Environmental Safety at Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her Bachelor of Science from SUNYIT Utica-Rome in Utica, New York, and her RN/Associate of Applied Science degree from Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York.
Briggs has been an employee at St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC) since 2005, most recently serving as director of Operational System Improvement for MVHS since 2014. Prior to that, he was manager of Quality for SEMC, and president/executive officer of Quality Systems Integration, Inc. in Sauquoit, New York.
Briggs attended Utica College in Utica, New York, and is a certified Risk manager, Internal Quality auditor, IWA-1 trainer/coach for the American Association for Quality, Insurance counselor, and Educating All Students (EAS) reviewer for the Empire State Advantage Program. He is trained as a National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO) auditor and as a lead auditor for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for ISO9001:2000 audits.
Rebecca Delahunt, BSN, RN is Director of Case Management. She has been an employee of Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) for more than 23 years. Prior to her current position, Delahunt held various nursing and case manager positions throughout the organization. Delahunt received her degree in Nursing from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing in Utica, New York, and her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from SUNYIT Utica/Rome in Marcy, New York.
In this position, Pekola is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the quality professionals, including the daily operation of the department, assigning investigations, case review and ensuring follow up to issues as they arise. Pekola has been an employee of FSLH for nine years as a staff RN, relief charge nurse, assistant nurse manager, coordinator of the bariatric surgery program, and quality professional. She is a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA), and National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ).
In this position, Selden is responsible for overseeing the Midas+ data management system, clinical quality data reports, board report cards and data abstraction for the entire health system. The clinical analysts and clinical data abstractors report to her. Selden has worked in healthcare for St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Faxton Hospital and Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) for 26 years in various roles, most recently as manager of Clinical Data Management for FSLH.
In this position, Witchley provides oversight to the Social Services Department (which focuses on discharge planning and care coordination), collaborates with network affiliates to grow network referrals within the organization, works with community resources to increase community service availability, and works with the MVHS leadership team to streamline discharge processes. Witchley has been an employee at St. Elizabeth Medical Center since 2009. She has held various positions within the organization, most recently serving as director of Case Management.

Catherine Callanan our Sodexo general manager for Support Services at the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). Callanan has been an employee at Sodexo for 25 years and has extensive leadership experience in Food and Nutrition, Housekeeping, Service Response Center (SRC) and Transport Services.
