This page will have the most up-to-date construction and traffic updates regarding the new MVHS Medical Center being built in downtown Utica, NY.
Lafayette Street, between Cornelia Street and Broadway, may be restricted to one lane at certain parts of the day from Monday, January 13 through Friday, January 17, 2020. A flagger will direct traffic when the lane closure is required.
The lane restriction is to ensure the safety of the community as demolition continues on buildings within the footprint of the future MVHS Regional Medical Center. The building to be demolished on these specific days is close enough to the road to potentially pose a risk, so the street may be restricted to one lane in order to ensure everyone’s safety.

Infrastructure improvements underneath Columbia Street will begin Monday, December 16, 2019. In order to improve the infrastructure and increase capacity for the new regional medical center and surrounding areas, Columbia Street will be required to close from Broadway to State Street beginning on Monday and remain closed until the infrastructure improvements are completed sometime next year. Surrounding streets such as Lafayette Street, State Street, Broadway and Court Street will remain open while the infrastructure work is being done. We’ll keep the community updated through the local media, emails to businesses and residences downtown and continue to update our own construction website.
