Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

MVHS Advanced Wound Care features cutting edge hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). This is a treatment in which the patient breathes 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. HBOT quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream and assists in the healing process of wounds. It is also effective in fighting certain types of infections, stimulates the growth of new blood vessels and improves circulation.

HBOT is also used to treat crush injuries, osteomyelitis, skin grafts and flaps, brown recluse spider bites and diabetic wounds of the lower extremity.

Our program is devoted to healing problem wounds and to helping our patients reclaim their quality of life. The majority of patients who are treated at our clinic do not require HBOT, but those that do usually experience positive healing rates faster.

Throughout HBO therapy, the patients are monitored to see if the concentration of oxygen has increased in the blood near the wound. A typical course of treatment involves the patient spending about 90 minutes a day in the chamber five days per week over a four-to-six-week period.
