UTICA, N.Y. – On Monday, January 13, 2020, Mayor Robert Palmieri presented a check for over $21,000 to the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) Breast Care Center.
The money was raised for the MVHS Breast Care Center at Mayor Palmieri’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon that he hosts with his wife Susan. The guest speaker at this year’s luncheon was Shelley Penge, finance director at Utica Municipal Housing Authority and a breast cancer survivor. The amount of funds raised this year is the greatest amount the luncheon has raised to date. Since its inception, the luncheon continues to grow each year in attendance and donations. The announcement was made during a check presentation at City Hall.
This year’s luncheon was sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, PJ Green, Brightwaters Farms, Adirondack Financial Services Corp., Adirondack Bank, Deerfield Place and Schuyler Commons. Nearly 300 people attended the luncheon and numerous raffle baskets were donated by individuals, businesses and organizations.
“We are so grateful to have the support of the community and to be a part of such an incredible event,” said Nancy Butcher, MBA, executive director of Cancer Services at MVHS. “Breast cancer affects so many women right here in Central New York and with the funds we receive from generous donations, we are able to give back and enhance patient services at the Breast Care Center.”
