Gilbert Lawrence, MD, DMRT, FRCR, is a radiation oncologist for the MVHS Cancer Center. He also
serves as clinical associate professor of Radiation Oncology at SUNY Upstate Cancer Center.
Dr. Lawrence began his medical career in Bombay, India, where he earned a master’s degree in
surgery as well as his medical degree. After attending medical school, he graduated as a fellow
of the Royal College of Radiology in London, England, and then became a research fellow at
Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York.
Before joining Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare in 2000, Dr. Lawrence held assistant professor
appointments at the University of Illinois and Northwestern University in Chicago and was a
clinical professor of Radiation Oncology at Kansas University Medical School.
In 2007, Dr. Lawrence was elected by his radiation oncology peers to serve as president
of the Upstate New York Society of Therapeutic Radiologists and Oncologists. In addition to caring
for patients at MVHS in Utica, Dr. Lawrence as part of the radiation oncology staff of SUNY, will be
teaching medical students and radiation oncology residents at SUNY Upstate.
While in clinical practice, Dr. Lawrence continues his academic interests through presentations at
several cancer meetings and publishing in many national and international journals in the fields
of radiation oncology, breast and prostate cancers. He is board certified by the American College
