Erin helped our ICU Care Team and a family in an extraordinary way. Our patient, a father of three, came to us with advanced cancer. Upon admission to the unit his wife was beside herself....so worried about their children. I spoke with the wife at length and then went to see Erin to see if she could help in any way. Erin was phenomenal....everything she brought to the unit to support the children, their mother and dad brought them peace and calmness......One of the most touching things was the gifts she brought for dad to give this children on their first visit (seeing him on a vent). His children were amazed - wondering how he was able to shop for the teddy bears. She also helped to create fingerprint charms that will be arriving in the mail for the children as a gift from their dad. I didn't know we did this, it is so touching. I cannot express how grateful the mother was …it is beyond words.
These end of life journeys are so emotional and stressful for the family and the staff….and yet we meet a patient and family such as this and we work with Erin for the first time...and it makes it all okay....our work is sacred. Erin is absolutely wonderful....her kind, warm smile, big heart, knowledge and training have helped this family more than I think she could possibly know. She even gave us her cell phone number if we needed to call her during her time off. This family had a sad road ahead of them and she has helped make all the difference.
