Program Director’s message
Thank you for your interest in the MVHS Hospital General Surgery program. As the newest accredited surgical program in New York State, our mission is to train residents to function as competent, patient centered surgeons with the skills and ability to provide evidence-based, accessible, high quality care in our communities.
Upon graduation from our program, we expect residents to have the knowledge and experience to lead a surgical team in the diagnosis, and the operative & peri-operative management of diseases and their complications in the nine primary components of surgery. Rotations will include, but are not limited to, abdomen, breast, colorectal, head & neck, vascular, thoracic, endocrine, pediatric, hepatobiliary and bariatric. Residents will also spend time with anesthesia, burn and transplant teams.
The Mohawk Valley Health System is one of the largest healthcare systems in Central New York. As such, we have made the commitment to advance health and wellness across the region through the education of the next generation of healthcare leaders. Residents will benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including our newly-constructed Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica (opened Fall 2023), our integrated Epic EHR system, as well as our Simulation Center to promote hands-on experiential learning.
We have been approved for 3 categorical residents per year and 3 PGY-1 preliminary residents to help build our program and create a culture of education, cooperation, teamwork, growth and continuous quality improvement across the Central New York region. As such, we are seeking highly motivated applicants that can demonstrate a commitment not only to clinical excellence, but also to scholastic inquiry and leadership.
Please feel free to look over our webpages and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Thank you again for your interest in the brand new MVHS Hospital General Surgery Residency.
