Outpatient Psychiatry Consult Service

The Outpatient Psychiatry and Neurosciences Department is offering a new, interdisciplinary psychiatry consult service for all Mohawk Valley Health System Outpatient Primary Care and Specialty Service providers.

Overview of the Outpatient Psychiatry Consult Service

  • Interdisciplinary team consisting of a Psychiatric attending, third-year Psychiatric resident and third-year Family Medicine resident.
  • Provide non-urgent and urgent outpatient Psychiatric consultation services for all MVHS primary care and specialty practices.
  • Non-urgent consults include questions about medication review, side effects, psychosocial influences, diagnostic considerations and other treatment recommendations.
  • Consults are non-patient facing and are only a chart review/phone consultation with the provider when needed.

Urgent Consults and Questions

  • If there are acute medication change questions that cannot wait for a Wednesday, a rotating on-call resident can answer urgent calls with his/her attending.
  • This is not to assess danger to self or others – if that is a concern, contact MCAT at 315-732-6228 or call 9-1-1 to bring the patient to a hospital.
  • Calls will be answered by the end of the business day.
  • Call the Outpatient Psychiatry and Neurosciences Office at 315-624-4801 to have the request routed to the appropriate resident or attending, depending on urgency and availability.

Non-urgent Consults and Questions

  • Send a staff message or secure chat to Dr. Stephen Hudyncia. Indicate the reason for the consult and a summary of your question.
  • Consult requests are reviewed every Wednesday by the interdisciplinary team.
  • You must inform your patient that you are consulting Psychiatry. The team will write a note in the chart that will be visible to the patient.
