St. Elizabeth College of Nursing (SECON), in conjunction with the Utica Police Department, Utica Fire Department, Oneida County Sherriff’s Office, New Hartford Police Department and the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) conducted an “Active Shooter Drill” for its college staff and students on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the college campus. The drill is part of the college’s Campus Safety and Security program and is designed to provide students, faculty and staff with a scenario that mimics an actual situation involving an active shooter on campus. This year the drill was expanded to include the transportation of simulated victims to the Wynn Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The SECON Administration, local law enforcement and fire agencies and key personnel from the MVHS have all taken a proactive stance in keeping the college community on alert and practicing for a situation that hopefully will never occur. A debriefing followed at the conclusion of the drill.
