UTICA, N.Y. – The process to distribute birth certificates and social security cards was an issue of concern for the Wynn Hospital and Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) since the move to the Wynn Hospital at the end of October 2023. The NYS Department of Health (DOH) electronic system for entering birth certificate information – which ties into Social Security – was unable to be accessed by the Wynn Hospital. Thus, everything was being processed manually which created delays.
MVHS is pleased to announce that earlier this week, the system was updated by NYSDOH so that birth certificate information can now be uploaded by Wynn Hospital staff electronically. It was also confirmed this morning that the social security card process has also been updated. This means the processing of birth certificates and social security cards has returned to normal so that parents will receive these documents in a timely manner.
If parents need care for their newborns and are waiting for these documents, they can contact the MVHS Children’s Health Center at 315-801-3161, and they will make sure the newborns receive the care they need.
