Dr. Cognetto (a.k.a. Dr. “Norm”) has lived in central New York all his life and grew up and went to elementary school in Utica, NY. With a desire to return to his hometown, Dr. Cognetto opened his office in one of Utica’s historic homes on Genesee Street. He wanted to create an environment where he and his patients would feel relaxed and comfortable. A place where any fears they might have had would be left at the door when they arrived. It became known as “Kidsteethonly.”
Dr. Cognetto continues to enhance his knowledge and skills, attending multiple classes, seminars and meeting each year in order to continue to provide his patients with the greatest level of care available.
He is a member of the American Dental Association, NYS Dental Society and our local Oneida-Herkimer County Dental Society where he is a past president and currently he is Chairman of the Children’s Dental Health Month Committee. He is on staff at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare and a past chairman of the dental department. He is also an attending dentist at the Dr. James Rozanski Dental Health Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Cognetto works with students pursuing careers in the field of dentistry such as dental hygienists, dental assistants and office managers. He also provides a learning environment “shadowing” for high school and college undergraduate students who are considering/aspiring to become dentists.
Dr. Cognetto currently lives in New Hartford, New York with his wife Valerie and two sons Nicholas and Christian. He also shares his home with a yellow lab “Rufus” and a tabby cat “Munchkin” who are often the topic of the many stories shared with his patients. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys cycling, running, triathlons, mountain climbing, bow hunting, fly fishing, and woodworking.
Dr. Cognetto graduated from New Hartford High School in 1983. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Utica College and in 1991 a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from State University of New York School of Dental Medicine. He then completed a two year residency program specializing in pediatric dentistry at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
