The dental residents’ day typically starts at 7:45am with a meeting, seminar, lecture, case presentation, or literature review. Patients are then scheduled from 8:45am to 12:30pm and 1:15pm to 5pm. This does not include the times dental residents are scheduled out for medical rotations or other assignments. Typically, patients are scheduled for 45-60 minute appointments with some exceptions. On average a resident will see approximately 2,000 patient visits each program year. That includes walk-in daytime emergencies that are equally shared by all residents. Additional lectures may also be scheduled at other times of the day according to attending schedules.

Dr. Joseph Giovannone received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (cum laude) from Union Collage, Schenectady, New York, in 1976 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, DC, in 1980.
Since 1980, he has been an active member of the ADA, NYSDA, Fifth District and Oneida Herkimer County Dental Societies, as past president of the Oneida Herkimer County Dental Society in 1994 and past president of the Fifth District Dental Society in 2007. He is an attending dentist at Faxton St. Luke’s General Practice Residency Orogram, teaching prosthetic and implant dentistry since 1982 and is a Quarter Century Award recipient. He was inducted as Fellow of the International College of Dentist (FICD) in 1989.
Since starting a general family dental practice in 1980, he has distinguished himself as a clinician by offering patients surgical dental implants and advanced reconstructive prosthetic treatment since 1986. His implant training includes Corevent Implant training (Zimmer implant systems) with Dr. Gerald. Niznick in Encino, California, in 1986 and a Certificate in Surgical Procedures (Branemark Implant System) from Northwestern University Dental School Center for Dental Implants in Chicago, Illionos, in1989. He has been a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) and the American Society of Osseointegration (ASO) since 1986. Since 1998, he has been a member of the Implant Prosthodontic Section of the ICOI (IPS).” Dr. Giovannone has successfully placed well over 2,500 implants since 1986. In June of 2010 he completed the “Periolase MVP-7 LANAP” training for laser treatment of periodontal disease.
Dr. Brian Jackson is a native of Utica, New York, and graduated from Utica College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology (cum laude). He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Jackson completed post-graduate training at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital Center’s General Practice Residency Program. He completed his formal oral implantology training at New York University School of Dentistry. In 1999, Dr. Jackson was awarded the 5th District Dental Society young Dentist Excellence Award encompassing dentists in eight counties including Utica and Syracuse. This award is given to an individual for excellence in community service, dental society activities and patient care. Dr. Jackson is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry (ABOI/ID). The ABOI/ID was chartered in 1968 to measure the practitioner’s in depth knowledge, proficiency, skills and experience required for comprehensive, safe and effective oral implant care for the public. The ABOI/ID Diplomate designation symbolizes the highest level of competence in implant dentistry. Dr. Jackson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID).
Dr. Jackson has presented oral implantology lectures to various groups locally, as well as at the 2002 annual global conference for the AAID in Los Angeles, California, and the 54th Annual Meeting in New York City in 2004. The topic that Dr. Jackson presented was “Occlusal Considerations for Implant Supported Prosthesis.” In 2007, Dr. Jackson lectured in Mumbai, India, as part of a conference titled “Enriching Talent with Innovations” sponsored by the India International Dental Congress, New York University and the AAID. In 2013, Dr. Jackson lectured in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of a conference dedicated to treatment of the atrophic patient. His presentation was titled: “Treatment Plan Consideration and Reconstruction of the Posterior Maxilla”. In 2014, Dr. Jackson presented an all day lecture titled “Treatment of the Edentulous Patient: The Synergy of Conventional and Small Diameter Implants” at the Southern Illinois Dental Society Annual Meeting. In addition, he has joined the faculty of the India, Las Vegas and New York Maxicourse in Oral Implantology.
Currently, he serves on the New York State Peer Review Committee, and is past president of the Northeast District of the AAID, as well as the Oneida-Herkimer County Dental Society.
Dr. Jackson is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry AAID).
In 2003, Dr. Jackson was asked to serve on the Board of Trustees at Utica College and remains active on the Health Science’s Professional Committee at the college.
In 2013, Dr. Jackson was granted the distinction of “Honored Fellow” at the AAID annual meeting in Washington, DC. The Honored Fellow award has been granted to less than 1 percent of the membership of the AAID. The award honors individuals for their service, clinical and educational contributions.
Currently, Dr. Jackson is a Board of Trustee member for the AAID, treasurer of the AAID Foundation and is an opinion leader with 3M ESPE dental division. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Oral Implantology.
Dr. Justin Reaves graduated from University of Buffalo Dental School in 2005. He completed his General Practice Residency at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare in 2006. Dr. Reaves completed the year-long Implant Maxicourse at New York University. He is a member of the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, Fifth District Dental Society, Oneida Herkimer County Dental Society, the CNY Implant Study Club. Dr. Reaves passed his exam to become an Associate Fellow of the AAID.
